ounded in 2004 by Dana Scoby, Maestro School of Music offers private and group violin and beginning piano lessons to children and adults in the Silicon Valley, the Santa Cruz mountains, and in Santa Cruz. After moving to the area in 2002, Ms. Scoby realized that many children did not have access to public school music programs or quality private teaching in her area. Today, Maestro School of Music has a robust program for public schools, private schools and personalized private teaching.

THE PRICELESS GIFT OF MUSIC

Studies show that children who are exposed to music at an early age are better listeners and also tend to do well in math and have better social skills as they grow older. After all, music is its own language utilizing a combination of tones and composition to create an infinite number of song combinations. Hundreds of years of classical music truly provided the foundation for most modern music, including jazz, blues, rock and roll and other styles. Maestro School of Music emphasizes traditional classical teaching and reading music. We use a unique teaching method that combines Suzuki and contemporary methods for violin and the piano. A variety of other musical methods are used for general music appreciation studies, including KinderMusik and Kodaly.

HOME OR SCHOOL SETTING

Ms. Scoby currently teaches school string programs in a number of schools. This year will be the third year of teaching at Sunnyvale Cherry Chase Elementary and at Carden El Encanto school,a private K-7 school in Santa Cruz. A new strings program was also started at CT English and Loma Prieta Elementary schools in Los Gatos. Ms. Scoby continues to teach private violin and piano lessons in her home in the Santa Cruz Mountains as well as in Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and Santa Cruz. Private lessons are always recommended and ensure that students make steady progress.
